ObjectiveTo investigate the changes of non-linear dynamics properties of EEG of normal volunteers under mental arithmetic with eyes closed, orientation test with eyes closed and picture memory with eyes closed and patients of cerebral infraction with eyes closed. To understand the distribution, the sequence and the degree of activation of the regions involved in the cognitive task under mental tasks. Through dynamic analysis based on D2 and ApEn, to investigate the patients of cerebral infraction of non-linear dynamics properties of EEG under state eyes closed. And the changes of cognitive function with real-time Correlation Dimension (D2) and approximate entropy (ApEn) nonlinear indexes monitoring during cognitive courses. MethodsEEG was recorded in 30 younger volunteer under three states: eyes closed, mental arithmetic with eyes closed and orientation test with eyes closed. Correlation D2 and ApEn were calculated for all subjects. EEG was recorded in 30 older volunteer under the states of opened eyes and picture memory. Correlation D2 were calculated for all subjects. EEG was recorded in the groups of natural comparison and cerebral infraction under eyes closed state. Correlation D2 and ApEn were calculated for all subjects. Results1. The results argued for the averages of D2 and ApEn increased significantly during mental arithmetic, orientation test with eyes closed as compared to the state eyes closed(P<0.05).2. Mental arithmetic with eyes closed D2 and ApEn increased at F3、 F7、 C3、 P3、 P4 and predominant at left of hemisphere;many areas of tow-sides involved in theprocess of orientation test with eyes closed.3. The results argued for the averages of D2 and ApEn increased significantly during pictures memory and re-recognize with eyes opened as compared to the state eyes opened(P<0.05).4. D2 topographic maps of pictures memory show there are a current of D2:Cv O2—^3—>FPi* F3;D2 of pictures memory is higher and wider.5. D2 and ApEn of reduced significantly the group of cerebral infraction as compared to the group of natural comparison under eyes closed state (P<0.05).6. D2 topographic maps show: D2 of a patient of cerebral infraction (left forehead and left gore) increased at left temporal lobe, left frontal-temporal-occipital lobe during mental arithmetic.Conclusions1. The study of D2 and ApEn of normal volunteers under mental arithmetic with eyes closed, orientation test with eyes closed and picture memory with eyes closed indicated that D2 and ApEn can dynamic and timely observe the distribution, the sequence and the degree of activation of the regions involved in the cognitive task under these states.2. To apple D2 and ApEn of patients of cerebral infraction with eyed closed show that With ApEn and Cx non-linear indexes, changes of EEG signal could be real-timely monitored in the cognitive task.3. D2 topographic maps cerebral infraction under mental arithmetic with eyes closed indicate that D2 can display activation of the regions involved in arithmetic task.
