Ethnic minority higher learning institutions is an important component of our country’s higher education system, which bear the responsibilities to raise minority talents and to spread the minority traditional culture . Ethnic minority higher learning institutions made great contribution to the minority regions since the first one established .Meanwhile, we should clearly realize that ethnic minority higher learning institutions are facing many developing problems such as lack of clear school-running characteristics. Nowadays, school-running characteristic becomes the most important developing strategy to each university, so as to the ethnic minority higher learning institutions. The goal of the paper is to make a clear understanding of the ethnic minority higher learning institutions’characteristics and find a way to develop the school-running characteristics.The whole paper can be divided into three parts. In the first part, the writer looked back on the development of the minority higher education, and then analyzes the school-running characteristic of the ethnic minority higher learning institutions and the reasons why ethnic minority higher learning institutions should take the way of characteristic development. In order to have the first-hand information, the writer interviewed the professor of Minority traditional culture, and meets many students who are studying in the ethnic minority higher learning institution, the research results are appeared in the second part. In the last part, the writer discussed how to develop the school-running characteristic of the ethnic minority higher learning institutions in the future and gave some concrete advice from inner and external side.
