Content:From the middle of the 18’s century, distant education has experienced the stages of Correspondence education 、 Radio and TV education and Contemporary distant education. Its development speed is amazing, especially after the 90’s of last century, with the progress of the technology of compute networks、 database、 multimedia、 communication on and the advance of all—life study idea and the study or training on web, as a different mode from traditional education, distant education is hotly carried out all over the world. But it’s no doubt that at the same of popularity of distant education of networks, there are also some problems and deficiencies. From the point of technology, the most marked one is the transmission of network platformof distant education------especially WAN(the main one is internet).Now, the application of distant education which is based on IP is wider and wider With the increase of the number of users and the proportion of multimedia affairs in networks, the deficiencies of IPv4 which supports the modern internet are gradually obvious. In addition, the fundamental facility of networks relatively falls behind, the contemporary internet can not support the hotter and hotter affairs application of distant education, such as the interactive teaching which is based netmeeting, VOD on IP. These applications which are strict with time—delay and width of band just can be applied on LAN. The wide network of IP is mainly used to develop the teaching activities which are not strict with the real-time condition and occupy a little width of band. So, the distant education which is operated in the contemporary internet is more about none-real-time mode which is a combination of online and offline. It is difficult to get real interaction and updated time. Therefore, this makes the awkward situation that "network is not real network, distance is not real distance ".It is certain that thereal distant education of networks has not taken shape.It is obvious that how to change the fundamental structure of networks and provide comprehensive multimedia real-time application is very urgent. Now, the developing momentum of the gradually hot next generation internet (NGI)gets clear Its technological advantages are obvious and its future of application is wide. It takes the fundamental possibility for the real distant education of networks. This dissertation just discusses this and wants to expound how to use new network structure of NGI to carry out distant education of networks from theory and practice. Also this thesis analyses the new applications and affairs and wants to give some hints to the development of distant education.
