Objective To evaluate the relationship between serum S100B protein and brain tumor ,its after radiotherapy damage .Methods 101 patients , 17 to 69 years(mean age 46.7 years,47 men and 54 women).59 patients underwent MRI examination and 42 patients underwent CT examination. All were proved by imageology or pathology;30 cases were with glioma,31 cases were with brain metastasis tumor(MT),40 cases were after radiotherapy brain tumor . The distance、volume and edema degree around the brain tumor were measured .And KPS score of the glioma an the brain metastasis tumor were evaluated at the same time .KPS score >80 were depart to A group ,KPS score <80 were depart to B group .Serum S100B protein levels were detected by Enzyme-Linked Immunoadsorbent Assay(ELISA) in all patients with glioma, brain metastasis and after radiotherapy.Results The serum S100B protein,s level of the after radiotherapy group(109.28±36.1ng/L) were higher than glioma(P=0.001),brain metastasis(P=0.001),health control groups(P=0.001).There were no significantly difference among the levels of the other three groups(P>0.05); The serum S100B protein,s levels were significantly difference between the group withⅠ°and III°edama degree(P=0.028);The serum S100B protein,s levels were significantly difference in difference status.Conclusion Serum S100B protein can serve as the biology marker for the radiotherapy induced brain damage.In addition ,there are important value to evaluate the edama degree around the brain tumor.S100B also can serve as the predictor to the brain tumor patients.
