Automatic Steel Pipes Butt Tool (ASPBT) is a key pipe welding equipment in shipbuilding, oil and other fields, its main function is alignment and adjustment of the steel pipe. ASPBT is a Special apparatus in automated production of steel pipes which can adjust a series of short pipes which are different in diameters to one axis, check the error amount at the circumference and finally achieve the goal of fast preheating and welding. Currently, the group steel pipe production work is finished by hand. But the large pipe diameter and length lead to the low production efficiency, the large error and the poor quality. With a modern control and detection means, ASPBT can achieve the automated production of group steel pipes, improving production effciency and product quality greatly. It has important significance in solving techniacl difficulty and improving the level of automatic welding existing in group steel pipe production.This subject which is a sub-topics originated from "R&D of the marine engineering efficient pipe production lines " of China National Offshore Oil Engineering Co. Ltd. The main task of this paper is to design an equipment which could apply for any diameter series steel pipe, detect and adjustment parameters like straightness and wrong variable and preheat. In addition, research and feasibility studies are presented to related technologies of ASPBT.The research of this subject fully learn the relevant technical characteristics of group steel pipe home and abroad, analyze the working principles and characteristic. Combined with existing production and operation process, the overall scheme of ASPBT is put forward, including pipe transport, clamping centering, adjustment, preheat and material transport. The key technology of ASPBT is through clamping centering and adjustment to adjust parameters like traightness and wrong variable of group pipe.Based on different work of group steel pipe process, detailed research and design of internal components of ASPBT is carried out.In this paper, advanced infrared radiation preheating technology is used, functional requirements of preheat bodies is analyzed, preheat temperature and time when the equipment is working are calculated.Three-dimensional components and assembly design are finished with the help of UG, finite element strength analysis of important componets of ASPBT is presented with the help of ANSYS Workbench, the rationality and reliability of the structure design were proved.Virtual assembly analysis of ASPBT is carried out to verify the feasibility of the design, its work time is also analyzed and calculated.
