Gongga mountain is located in the transition zone from Qingzang plateau to Sichuan basin(29°36’N, 101°53’E), and it is main peak altitude is 7556 m above sea level. The south and east slopes are characterized with the integrated vertical vegetation spectrum of subtropical and frigid zone. In the west and north slopes there are both typical alpine steppe vegetation and alpine gorges. Gongga mountain is upstream area of Yangtze River, in which there is of particular physical geography and environmental condition. Therefore the microbe groups were inevitably inimitable. Until now we could not find out the reports about microorganisms and soil enzyme. So, study on the number of microbes, the microbial biomass carbon, microbial biomass nitrogen and soil enzyme in the different forest type and elevation in the soil profiles of the eastern slope of Gongga Mountain was important. And its finding will provided the scientific foundation for protesting ecology, resource, environment and biodiversity of the upstream area of Yangtze River.This experiment included study on the populations and biodiversity index of soil bacteria, fungi, actinomyces, alga and protozoa, and correlation of soil fertility factors with the microbial biomass carbon, microbial biomass nitrogen and soil enzyme in different forest type and elevation in soil profiles of the eastern slope on Gongga mountain. The results are as follows.1. The results of study on ten soil sections should that the characteristic of similar vertical distribution of microbe quantity were shown on various soil profiles. The microbe quantities of different soil descended as soil layer deepen, among which, the one of layer A(humus layer) was the most, the one of layer B(deposit layer) was the second and the one of C(parent material layer).2. The diversity index of soil profiles different altitude and different forest types of Gongga Mountain was not related with sampling altitude. The prominent negative relation was found between soil bulk density and the number of fungi and actinomycetes. There was the negative relation between soil bulk density and the number of soil bacteria.3. In the different soil profile, the predominant soil microorganism was remarkably diverse. As bacteria, Bacillus sp. was predominant in the soils. As fungi, Zygomycotina sp. and Deuteromycota sp. were predominant. While in actinomyces, Streptomyces sp. waspredominant.4. The obvious vertical distribution of microbial biomass carbon, microbial biomass nitrogen and soil enzyme were identified, which was that those decreased with the increase
