The preoxidation actuality of PAN based carbon fiber was firstly analyzed in this paper. In order to resolve the present shortcomings of preoxidation during carbon fiber production process such as preoxidation technology taking too much time, lower production volume and higher energy consumption etc, we designed a new type of fluidized preoxidation furnace by adopting fluidization technology and studied the fluidized preoxidation feasibility of PAN based carbon fiber. Fluidized preoxidation belongs to fluidized heat treatment technology, also has the excellence of high efficiency of mass transfer, heat transfer and energy saving. The new furnace and technology succeed in shortening preoxidation time, improving production efficiency of carbon fiber, and reducing energy consumption.According to the preoxidation character of PAN based carbon fiber and considering the features of structure design of fluidized bed, design method and demand for key parts was introduced and analyzed in this paper. The key parts such as structure of furnace, gas distributing system, gas offering and airproof system, the ratio of height to diameter of hearth, power of furnace and energy saving set etc, were designed and computed in detail. Several fluidized preoxidation furnaces have been also manufactured. According to the demand of actual pipeline distribution and pressure of gas offering, roots blower was adopted. In order to avoid polluting the surface of fiber, an equipment for removing hot particles was designed in particular. To ensure gas temperature and temperature uniformity, hot wind furnace was designed. And hot gas circulation system was designed to save energy. Practical operations showed that the furnace possesses characteristics of high efficiency of mass transfer and heat transfer, rapidly rising temperature rate, good temperature uniformity, high temperature controlling precision which error is less ±2℃, and good efficiency of saving energyconsumption.The fluidized preoxidation system of PAN based carbon fiber was controlled by computer that adopted distributed controlling system.
