With the development of language teaching,language testing is increasingly becoming a hot research area. In its continuous development process, how to apply a language test to measure language ability has been a core issue. In the field of foreign language teaching and research, language testing was considered the most effective means of measuring language proficiency, and at the same time, it produced the most data. Therefore, linked language testing and statistical methods together and the application of statistical methods in the field of language testing are inevitable. Only by using the scientific statistical methods can we make full, true, accurate and reliable analysis of the data, and to provide analyzed materials for improving the quality of language teaching and measuring language ability.As language testing has become the conventional means of language proficiency test, all branches of statistics become more and more useful in this area, and it has played an active role in exploring the law of data scores. Foreign scholars in this area have made a lot of useful explorations. In recent decades, in the field of foreign language testing in China, statistical methods have been widely used, especially after the 1980s, the use of quantitative research with modern statistics and measurements in the study of linguistics and applied linguistics by scholars has been carried out in a rising trend. This plays a significant role in raising teaching standards and scientific research capabilities of foreign language teaching and learning field. This paper comprehensively studies the articles which are relevant to the application of statistical methods in the field of foreign language testing for the past 30 years, and then takes 80 relevant articles for empirical research from ten core periodicals in CSSCI as the sample frame, researches the application and content of statistical methods in the field of foreign language testing, describes its theoretical basis, discusses the existing problems and solutions, and predicts the future research and developing trends. The author hopes to systematically summarize and analyze the application of statistical methods in the field of foreign language testing, and provide a summary of the basic experience and profile to the deepening of relevant research in the future.This paper consists of five chapters. The first chapter introduces the basic information of this study and the overall structure of the paper. The second chapter describes the theoretical basis of applying statistical methods in the field of foreign language testing and briefly introduces domestic research status now. The third chapter describes the research questions, research methods and data collection methods and procedures and other issues. And chapter four makes a detailed analysis and discussion of the pertinent data by qualitative and quantitative research. The fifth chapter focuses on the findings of this paper, implications, and limitations are also introduced.
