With the development of printing culture, the graphic design , existing as visual carrier in the form of the paper media, can be found everywhere in our lives. While now with the endless change of new techniques, the traditional graphic design is influenced by the electronic media which occupy the main stream poison and screen- favored new media, and the field originally belonging to the printing culture field is being dissected and compressed. While in the information-explosion time, graphic design has no longer been the traditional graphics, which has been given more intonation by the development of the visual culture, the information turns into interaction from unidirectional convey. In the debate of the paper media’s disappearance, the prophecy of the graphic design vanishing arouse deep concern and reflection in the design community.With the purpose of detecting whether graphic design disappear or not, this essay explores the answers through long time reading and collecting and editing the graphic-design related material, and making research on the new technique and developing trend of new media, combining the problems in the practice. From the long time research and analysis, the death of the graphic design is not true meaning disappearance and vanishing, its death is a kind of living; a form of refreshment in the blood of other fields, a transition from visual communication to visual interaction, a transformation from communication design to graphic design. If the development from visual communication design to graphic design is the pushing force of the new technology, the psychotropic effect reflected by the force will put the visual communication design to communication design.This essay fully analyzes the reason and the process of the transformation from the graphic design to communication design, taking the development of the graphic design as the theoretic foundation, throughout the development overview of the graphic design, beginning from the designing environment, holding the points of graphic design transition with sharp insight; and introduce the concept of new media; detect the future of graphic design in the new field of communication design and the future development approach of the graphic designers.
