The pellet production with grate-kiln way has been divided four technics parts: confecting materials, making pellet, baking and cooling. The grate-kiln system belongs to the baking and cooling parts. The control and adjusting for grate-kiln system’s pyrology institution is one of the most pivotal tache. Now, in the most factories, the workers control the system resorting to experience. This way has prodigious uncertainty. It results in the quality and output of finished pellet absolutely depended on the status of making pallet part. But because of the composition of materials changed rapidly, so the quality and thickness of crude pallet also changed rapidly. We have the results based on the research of pellet production technics theory and the locale investigating: we can produce high quality pellet if we could change the grate-kiln system’s pyrology institution to fit the change of material. So the pivotal problem is how to find the grate-kiln system’s perfect technics parameter for the different quality and thickness of crude pellet. A new grate-kiln intelligent optimizing system based on Rough Sets theory is proposed due to its complexity, multivariable, strongly coupled and model uncertainty.At first, this paper discusses in detail the theory basis of intelligent optimizing system, namely, Rough Sets theory. This part includes the concept of Rough Sets, the knowledge representation system of Rough Sets, and the reduction of decision table etc.Then, the paper put forward the general structure of the intelligent optimizing system. The system has the function of operation guidance and quality tacking. The model of the intelligent optimizing system and HMI is implemented by the Visual Basic 6.0. The data exchange between the intelligent optimizing system and PLC control system with the OPC technology.Finally, this paper detailedly discusses the application of Rough Sets in the grate-kiln intelligent optimizing system. By the simulation research and run test, it indicated that the intelligent optimizing system could ameliorate the pellet production and improve the finished pellet’s quality.
