Air traffic radar has important function on ensure the safety fly of cival aviation airplane、scheduled flight、improve the efficiency of air traffic control, the rationality of air traffic radar’s station、programming and position guarantee radar capability、effective fuction and reduce the cost of air traffic radar equipment. Therefor this paper does systematic researches on range、airspace coverage of air traffic radar and the choice of radar station. This paper’s research effort provides theory basis for evaluate air traffic radar’s capability and the rationality of radar station’s position, it has very important signification and application value.This paper firstly introduces primary radar range calculation using Blake arithmetic; Secondly some factors in Blake arithmetic which needs to refer to interrelated tables are formulated, the primary radar range is visually simulated; Thirdly, every factors effected radar range are analyze, Matlab language is used to simulate the attenuation of air traffic radar, so the effects of the meteorological factors on air traffic radar’s range are quantificational analyzed;Air traffic radar’s airspace is emphasized analyzed ,the choice of radar station is also discussed, and then give an example on how to choose Secondary Surveillance Radar station for yantai;At last, as shanghai airspace for example,shanghai’s 8 radars’high、low altitude coverage on shanghai airspace are simulated, the analysis of the rationality of shanghai current radar stations are provided, the future radar station’s programming and position are advised.
