Edward Morgan Forster is a British tradition and modern two factors both in the 20th century novelist, literary theorist , and essayist . Rich connotation of his masterpiece, \This paper begins with a brief introduction ideas and novel theories of Foster 's life and representative works its liberal humanism , and do a brief review of domestic and foreign research about the trip to India \Genette and Barr 's narrative , theory relying on the second chapter , \Foster is still used in the novel focused narrative ( traditional omniscient narrative ) , but the omniscience type narrator no longer occupies a godlike authority position , he reviews become more subtle and objective . In order to show the inner world of the characters , Foster extensive use of internal focus , to allow readers to directly feel the thoughts of the characters emotions and subjective experience . Different angles with the narrative focused on constantly switching between the characters , complement each other , and the re-integration of awareness of the different characters , thus showing a panoramic effect . The third chapter explains the features and functions in the novel \Free indirect discourse long set of indirect speech and direct quotations , mixing the two voices of the characters and the narrator , the two perspectives . It retains the figure in her own awareness of ingredients , and implicit in the tone of the narrator humor and irony . At the same time , it also makes extensive use of the novel narrative smoother .
