Because of the economic globalization, international competition and the current complex financial, economic, technological and resource environment, our Chinese enterprises must achieve sustainable innovation in order to achieve sustainable development in competition.as a basic industry of high pollution, high energy consumption and high emission, sustainable innovation is the key for Chemical industry to break through the current bottlenecks, protect human life and natural resources and environment.Now, as the advanced ones, innovative chemical companies are working to implement innovative strategies and carrying out innovative projects, which is bound to bring a number of risks they never dealt with before. Therefore, effective identification, assessment and respond to major risks of innovative chemical companies in sustainable innovation process, is the key to ensure the success of our innovative chemical companies continue to innovate and achieve sustainable development.Based on innovation theory and risk theory overview, as well as the general observation of our innovative chemical companies and typical innovative chemical companies research in-depth, the theory of sustainable innovation major risks of innovative chemical companies is studied. Then combined with the actual case, the theoretical framework and risk analysis method is used to discuss the risk factors and major risks identification of innovative chemical enterprise in China. Thus, this paper completed the study in following aspects:First, based on the previous studies, the connotation of sustainable innovation major risks of innovative chemical companies is described, including its definition, content, features, and its importance and necessity of recognition.Second, based on the connotation, analysis theoretical framework of sustainable innovation major risks of innovative chemical companies was build.Third, the risk factors were analyzed from the two aspects of external environment and internal.Fourth, the identification model of sustainable innovation major risks of innovative chemical companies was build based on DEMATEL method.Fifth, some response suggestions were given from the three aspects of government, industry and companies themselves.Sixth, in view of Yunnan XX Chemical Group’s ongoing strategic transformation and innovation projects, the empirical analysis was done and also some response suggestions were given.This paper is supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
