MiFu, one of the "Four Great of Masters" of calligraphy in the Northern Song Dynasty, is regarded as a great calligrapher, collector and connoisseur. In his whole life, he was keen on paintings and calligraphy; his arrogance and uninhibitedness were derived from his great talents in these fields. Mifu’s works flaunted the predecessors, advocated the style of "Wei and Jin", upheld the calligraphy of "Two Wang", pursued the knack of "spontaneity" and finally initiated a new school of calligraphy - "Mi" style".MiFu made great contribution in both calligraphy and its theory. In painting, MiFu and his son created the style of "Mi Shi Yun Shan" which is full of poetic and literati senses. The panoramic paintings of Northern Song Dynasty are less of decoration and more of simplicity.MiFu’s calligraphy is a milestone that could be barely surpassable. Its influence on the flowing generations is profound. This paper discusses the feats Mi made in calligraphy.
