A Study on Learning Styles of English Majors in a Vocational College

Recent decades, as the focus of the study of foreign language learning and teaching \Since the 1960s , one of the main factors of learning styles as individual differences in the field of Second Language Acquisition by the extensive attention . This paper reviews the domestic and foreign literature on learning styles , and carried out a study on this basis . From Jiangxi Vocational and Technical College English major sophomore all students participated in the survey . The study aims to discuss the following issues : the overall distribution and characteristics of tested students' learning style ; learning styles and achievement is associated ; score and low-scoring students in different learning style . Oxford ( 1993 ) , the overall design of learning styles questionnaire survey from the five dimensions of the eleven learning styles survey , assessment and final exam as a tool for measuring academic achievement . The data were analyzed by statistical software SPSS . The results show that : (1) test students ' favorite learning style is visual, auditory, and inward - looking style , and most do not like is hands-on , intuitive and open style ; (2 ) academic performance with both style --- significantly associated with inward - looking style was positively related to a negative correlation with the hands-on style ; (3) high score and low-scoring students there are significant differences in the hands , inward-looking , analytical style . Data analysis combined with the actual teaching and learning of the subject of the investigation , and were compared with similar studies at home and abroad to discuss the reasons for the formation of the results . The above results on the subjects of teaching practice with some inspiration . The one hand, teachers can use different measurement tools , multi-faceted understanding of the learning styles of students , taking into account the overall preference of instructional design , comply with the most students learning styles through different types of classroom activities , the use of a variety of information display mode . On the other hand , the learner should be based on their own learning styles in the classroom and extra-curricular learning appropriate learning methods and and actively expand learning styles . Finally, the paper from a theoretical construct , questionnaire design, three aspects of the practical significance of a number of recommendations for future research .
