The Design and Implementation of the Virtual Reality Geographic Information System Based on VR-GIS

Virtual Reality Geographic Information System (VR-GIS) was a generation of new geographic information systems formed by geographic information system and virtual reality technologies, VR-GIS has become one of the hot issues which the current GIS theoretical and applied research in. Virtual Geographic Information System is an important component of the construction of digital cities and also an important direction of geographic information systems development. Therefore, research on the construction and implementation of three-dimensional visual simulation system based on VR-GIS is very meaningful.This paper analyzed the necessity of virtual reality technology and geographic information systems technology combination after discussing the VR-GIS and related technologies characteristics, classification, composition and development conditions. And the overall system design and development process were discussed, including development environment, the overall framework and technical routes. Then the key technologies of virtual geographic information systems were studied, and the entire system design and development process, including development environment, the overall framework and technical routes were discussed. For virtual reality Geographic information systems technologies, the scenic three-dimensional environment was bound with the help of MultiGen Creator which was a professional virtual reality modeling software on the basis of theoretical research including three-dimensional spatial data acquisition, three-dimensional data model, digital elevation models, the level of detail of three-dimensional data model and three-dimensional data visualization, etc. And then the modeling process and the implementation programs of the complexity of virtual scene modeling were proposed based on MultiGen Creator. Finally the three-dimensional visual simulation system based on VR-GIS was established, including three dimensional model of editing, the scene view, scene rendering, model program to replace, spatial query, spatial analysis (including intervisibility analysis, shadow analysis, etc.) and audio controls, video capture and other functions.
