The Research on Junior School Math Teaching in the New Course Situation

Since 2003 a new round of reform in the junior math curriculum has been carried out across the country. Through the study of Syllabus for Math in Compulsory Education (Syllabus for short hereinafter), the author realizes that changes will take place in the students’ way of study, which will therefore expect new and higher demands on the math teachers. The existing teaching method cannot meet the new requirements any more. To accommodate themselves to the teaching under the guidance of the new syllabus, the teachers must keep on reflecting on and researching into their teaching methodology and reforming their teaching methods. The research into the math teaching reform in junior middle schools in such a context is conducted to solve the problems of the teaching.The research is based on a new curriculum. The first part of the essay introduces the theoretical basis of the junior middle school teachingreform in the context of the new curriculum--the basic ideas of theconstructivism theory of studies, several teaching methods and models and then analyzes the enlightenment on math teaching.Following the principle of combining theory with practice and using class-teaching examples, the second part elaborates the basic strategy of junior middle school math teaching reform in four aspects: teaching aims, contents, methods and assessments.In the third part, the author reflects on the problems that have arisen during her teaching practice in the recent three years such as the experimental textbooks, the enforceability of group studies and the teachers’ creative use of the textbooks.Math teaching must be conducted under the guidance of certain theories and on the basis of the Math Syllabus. Problems in the teaching practices are to be analyzed according to the relevant educational theories. These are the basic ways of the research.In addition, the essay also adopts some of other methods such as document researching, comparative researching and case analyzing, combining teaching and researching organically. The research is the basis for teachers’ continuous progress and at the same time enriches the theory of junior middle school math teaching. It also provides references for junior middle school math teaching in the future.
