Rural informatization is an important aspect of national economy and social informatization. Generally, rural informatization means the process that around every aspect of peasants’production and life, widely use information technologies, deeply develop and use agriculture related resources, speed up the development of national economy and social progress in rural areas. In this process, local governments explore and practice and put forward many construction modes in succession, such as SMS mode, voice mode, computer mode, satellite mode, wave mode etc. But these modes can not be widely applied because of wide involved scope and complicated user demand.From 2005, rapid development of IPTV brings new chances for rural informatization. On building a set of infrastructure platform, IP Multi-service implements many rural informatization applications such as rural party cadres modern distance education, rural middle school distance education, animal husbandry informatization. This mode bases on IPTV technology, has information resources and profession application as core. IP multi-service totally embodies the thoughts of "resource integration and sharing" on integrating networks, information resources and multi applications.First, the author introduces the concept and scope of rural informatization, comparatively analyzes its advantage and shortcoming, and summarizes its requirements. Second, the author studies on how to use IP multi-service mode to develop rural informatization. Finally, the author analyses the industry chain of IP multi-service mode. During study and practice, the author has achieved the following results:First, designs the network infrastructure and system structure.Second, resolved many technical problems such as multi-service EPG, H.264 optimization algorithm, intelligent distribution technology, SoC+DSP infrastructure STB.Third, compiles the major part of the technical specification of rural public cadres modern distance education.
