In recent years, with the upsurge of the global network, network technology for personal use is also soared. Compared with other file storage technology., research of virtual disk technology based on wide area network, can achieve a virtual disk, which made it more simple, faster, higher security and had capacity benefits of scalable.. Its key issue include: remote virtual disk driver, safe and reliable network communications in kernel level and selecting the appropriate server-side storage model.Network virtual disk driver simulate a file on the network into a virtual disk of client, which user can operate as a local disk. Designing the driver and the establishment of a local drive letter name and the remote image file correspondence through the driver’s device object is key of research of virtual disk technology based on wide area network. This technology modeled on the user’s habits to meet the requirements of user-friendly interface.Achieve the network communications function of this techinology, by calling TDI (Transport Driver Interface) interface. Communication is establisheddirectly in the Windows kernel-mode level, so it privides higher efficiency of network transmission, which meet the requirements.Relatively independent block-based data access services and data storage model is used in the server. Block-based data access service converts disk reading and writting in the client to the image file reading and writting in the server; After analysising in the evolution of the various storage model, advantages and disadvantages of various storage techinology , the comparison of current popular storing method, iSCSI SAN storage model became the final choice for a remote virtual disk system.Rremote virtual disk technology can be used to achieve fast electronic information network shareing to the case of large number of electric information with a friendly user interface.
