Virtual battlefield has many particular advantages in the military maneuver, such as scientific, economical, interactive, real-time, etc. And it as well benefit for improving the quality of military training, reducing cost of training, decreasing the solders’ dangerous. Virtual battlefield environment simulation research is very important because it is an important basic platform of virtual battlefield.The paper makes research on the virtual environment of battlefield, and has mainly completed the work as follows: firstly, the simulation of battlefield terrain, the paper introduces several kinds of basic terrain models, and improved the method which uses quadtrees to compose the battlefield terrain and realizes the battlefield landform. Secondly, the paper studies the techniques of dynamic terrain, and puts forward the realizing method of crater that is on the base of irregular triangle meshes and formula meshes. Thirdly, the nature phenomenon on battlefield mainly includes rain, snow and cloud. The special effect mainly includes the blast and flame. The paper realizes the simulation of rain and cloud using the improved system of particle, achieves the blast and flame based on the founded method. These highly increase the reality of scene.
