Based on the ANSYS finite element structural analysis of a machine gun

In this paper the FEM (Finite Element Analysis) program ANSYS was used to study the structural strength and the vibration modal of a certain machine gun, so a science theory basis for the structural design and improvement of the machine gun was provided.First the data exchange function of ANSYS software and the CAD software was used to insert the geometry model of the machine gun which was established in Pro/E software into ANSYS software. After the establishment of finite element model, the finite element structure of statics and dynamics analysis were carried to the model. Through the structure static stress analysis of the gun, the overall stress situations were obtained, and especially it analyzed the relations about the contacted areas and the stress of the gun bolt and the case. Through the modal analysis, the natural frequency and modal shape of the machine gun was obtained. The situations of stiffness strength and elasticity deformation about each part of the gun were got by the analysis of the modal shape. So it can offer improvements to the weak place of the structure, which can improve the stiffness and the shooting precision of the weapons, making the dynamics characteristics of the gun more reasonable.According to the requirement of the gun structure design, the ANSYS software’s development tools such as UIDL and APDL are used to develop the structure analysis module of machine gun. This tool provide much convenient to the analysis of the machine gun when it’s designed or improved.
