The Empirical Research of the Relationship between Organizational Citizenship Behavior and Work Ethic

Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) which goes beyond role requirements is not formulated by official labor contract and organizational rules and regulations; it comprises a series of cooperative behavior and can promote organizational efficiency and operation ability. Since the conception of Organizational Citizenship Behavior was proposed, it received much attention. It is regarded as one of the resource of organizational competitive advantage. However, a lot of researches focus on its function and methods of enhance organizational performance, such as payment systems, corporate culture. Rare researches are established in employees’ethics and pay close attention to raise employees’OCB by changing their work ethic. With the development of a new concept called Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) in and abroad, OCB has gradually become an important aspect which influences employees’manner and values. Therefore, this paper tries to discuss how employees’work ethic influences OCB via empirical approach.This paper brings the theoretical model and hypothesis forward via a mass of literature reading, and then uses mature scales to investigate 384 employees’OCB, work ethic of different ages, trades, politics status, level of income and education, and also analyses the collected data using SPSS. The conclusion of this paper is as follow:work ethic and its five dimensions have a positive influence on OCB. Finally, this paper proposes some advice in terms of employees’work ethic and OCB for enterprise’s human resource management. The limitations of this study are discussed at the end of the paper, and the orientation of the research is proposed.
