Study on the Chimisorption Removal of FCC Gasoline Sulfur Compound

Although the Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) process has been commercially established for over 60 years, the technologies are continually evolving to meet new challenges. This study presents and describes the research progress of FCC gasoline adsorption desulfurization on zeolites adsorbents and adsorption process.In order to reduce the sulfur level in liquid hydrocarbon fuels for environmental protection, desulfurization of a model FCC gasoline was conducted by S-Zorb adsorption process using nickel-zinc sorbents. A series of zeolites adsorbents were firstly prepared and tested to clarify there impact on thiophene adsorption desulfurization.The adsorbents used exhibit a significant selectivity for thiophenes. Further work in determining the optimum conditions for screening better adsorbent such as specific surface area, total pore volume as well as pore size and average pore diameter was carried out by N2-adsorption analysis. X-ray diffraction and Thermogravimetry analysis were performed to enhance the characteristics of the catalyst. The x-ray diffraction patterns showed that ZnO particles are very well dispersed proportionally to NiO particles over HY-zeolite and showed a high crystallinity. TPR analysis also showed H2 consumption above of 350℃which is likely due to the reduction of supported Ni2+ ions. During the activity evaluation, the reaction temperature, pressure and H2/Oil ratio have played a crucial role in the desulfurization zone and the adsorbent sulfur removal was maintained at more than 90%.
