Color appearance model is a kind of mathematics model that can predict color perceptions in different viewing conditions, while traditional CIE color system can only predict color perceptions in given viewing conditions. As the Chinese national standards, Chinese color system is extensive used in many industrial application fields. So research on color appearance models using Chinese color system data will have important influence in many application areas.Due to color appearance models, it predicts Chinese color system appearance scales. Models used were: CIELAB, Hunt, Nayatani, RLAB, LLAB, ZLAB, CIECAM97s and CIECAM02.The performance of various color appearance models are evaluated, in terms of the constant perceptual nature of the Chinese color system data. The results of prediction of Chinese color system appearance scales are compared with Munsell system.These modern color-appearance models can predict lightness scales of two color system data sets very well, but the performance of these models is poor in prediction of hue and chroma scales. None of these models excelled at all metrics. By comparing the prediction of Chinese color system with Munsell color system, it can be concluded that the performance of Chinese color system is worse than Munsll color system slightly.In the end of this thesis, by processing Chinese color system data and using optimization method, a new color difference formulate of the newest color appearance model CIECAM02, named CIECAM02-DE is deduced, and the uniformity of chromaticity diagram based on CIECAM02 is improved. Evaluation results show that CIECAM02-DE have almost the same good performance in predicting color difference as the NC-IIIC color difference formulate and the uniformity of chromaticity diagram is obviously improved.This research project has also some questions need to deal with further. The uniformity of chromaticity diagram for various models should be investigated using other quantitative methods. Other color system data and color appearance data is expect to be gained and added into the research so that the research results can be complemented and synthesized.
