Analysis on Family Identity of Rural Rear Children

Since reform and opening up, the rural population gathers together toward city continuously. Owing to the Urban-rural split system, thousands of peasants choose to out-migration, consequently more and more rural children left in rural homes, which is what we called "rural rear children".From the perspective of family identity, this paper is contributed to finding out how rural rear children will view their family forms when their family structure is inflected by their parents’ working out, and also finding out what is different from their conscious family identity.The thesis takes the qualitative approach embracing in-depth case interview, literature and observation methods. Based on the interview materials, this paper mainly focuses on the issues as follows: the construction of rural rear children’s family identity; how family identity disorder effects family socialization, and how to solve the problem caused by rural rear children’s family identity disorder.When changes taken place in family structure, rural rear children are more active participant than passive acceptant. During the interactions between the original family and the present family, they also form their own experiences and feelings. With parents’ leaving for jobs, there will be big gap between rural rear children’s conscious family identity and their existing family forms. The Parent-child relationship before parents’ leaving, children’s own feeling on parents’ leaving and the interactions between parent-child during parents’ leaving contribute to the construction of original family identity, and present family’s integration, care and interaction affect the construction of present family identity.Future more, rural rear children’s family identity disorder will make hindrance to emotion socialization, family education function and establishment of family authority, which finally make bad impacts to the development of family socialization. Thus, the society and families should work together to solve those problems.
