On the Reform of China’s NCEE Since 1977

National College Entrance Examination (NCEE) is a key subject concerned almost all the countries in the world. It has direct influence on the election of varies high-level professionals and the health development of high education. The rebuilding of China’s NCEE has been 30 years since 1977. In order to make a comprehensive understanding of China’s NCEE, it is necessary to review the 30-year history.Based on the history of China’s examination system, this dissertation gives a general picture of the 30-year history, and analyzes the challenges and problems appeared in the history. From such content, this dissertation sums up the lessons and experiences of the reform and development of NCEE.The main content of this dissertation includes two parts. Part one is ChapterⅠandⅡ. Based on the review of the history of China’s examination system, Part one gives a historical description of the establishment and development of New China’s NCEE. Part two is ChapterⅢandⅣ. The emphasis of this part is related analyses on the 30-year history of the development of NCEE.ChapterⅠgives an outline of the development of China’s examination before 1977. In old China, the Imperial Examination is an important system and has very profound impact on the development of Chinese society. In 1952, the government of New China established a uniform college enrollment examination system (so called NCEE). From 1952 to 1966, NCEE experienced prosperity and reveal, which became the base of it rebuilding and development after 1977.ChapterⅡreviews the rebuilding and development of NCEE after 1977. The rebuilding of NCEE in 1977 is a landmark in the history of China’s examination, and the development of NCEE after 1977 has provided more and more chances of accepting higher education for young Chinese. Through the description and analyses of the 30-year reform, this dissertation tries to make a scientific view for the current reform of NCEE. There are many problems in the current development of NCEE. Based on such problems, Chapter III and IV record and narrate main debates and reform measures about NCEE in the past 30 years. Today, the reform of NCEE has been the consensus of all the society. But as we all know, any reform must be based on the rational analysis, which just is the key purpose of this part.
