Currently, the product design environment for manufacturing enterprises is changed rapidly, global competition compress the product design cost, variety requirements make the product more complexity, the shortening product life cycle make the product design lead time more shorter. Design reuse can help the manufacturing enterprise overcome the pressure of time and cost by reusing the existing design resource.Sponsored by the National High-Tech. R&D Program for CIMS, China (No.2005AA415280); and the Key Science & Technology Program of Zhejiang Province, China (No.2003C1104), this dissertation researched the design reuse method for auto parts from those aspects, design reuse object in auto parts design, design reuse methods architecture, key design reuse technologies, applicable design reuse software development, etc.Chapter I analyzed the challenges of auto parts design, give the signification of design reuse. Summarized the research status of design reuse, and then give the content and structure of this dissertation.Chapter II analyzed the classification of auto parts from design aspect firstly, then gave the reuse objects, and proposed the design reuse methods architecture, which is the foundation of the whole research.Chapter III researched the parameter-based auto parts design reuse method. Mostly discussed two topics, one is parametric modeling method from auto parts design cases; the other is how to reuse the parametric model to finish the new design. Furthermore, the interface parts design reuse method was researched. The interface design was reused by constructing interface parts library.Chapter IV researched the single part design reuse method. Shape information is the most important information to estimate the reusability of part design, but the shape information is included in the 3d model, directly retriving 3d model is a hard work, so a simplified form that expressing the shape information of the part is proposed in this paper, edge-face-net graph (EFN). How to create EFN from a part design instance was researched, and the FEN-based reusable part retrive method was given.Chapter V researched the component design reuse method. The component library based component design reuse method was researched. How the divide the auto part design instance to several components is the most important problem to be resolved, a templet-based component division method was proposed. The design resource retriving strategy and method were discussed.Chapter VI researched and developed the prototype applicable software based the whole dissertation’s research; the proposed design reuse method was tested. A design reuse platform was given, and the architecture of the platform was construed, and design reuse examples were given.Chapter VII summarized the whole research, and some suggestion was given for the further research in the future.
