Loess Plateau farming has a long history, is one of the birthplaces of China's agricultural. Area climate has a typical continental arid, semi-arid monsoon climate characterized 250 ~~ 600mm annual precipitation is mainly dry farming area in northern China. Because of the lack of precipitation in the number of the year the uneven distribution of interannual variability, with serious soil erosion, drought has become the region's largest natural disasters, often plagued the sustainability of rainfed agricultural production. Over the years, planting drought-resistant crops has been inherent in measures arid areas of agricultural production, crop population, membership to help select and Arid Regions resources and the environment to adapt scientific and technological progress, to fully tap and continue to enhance its production potential of precipitation is arid areas of agriculture important way to sustainable development and the rural economy. Resistance, barren small grains drought-tolerant, adaptable and occupies a dominant position of agricultural areas of crop production in the Loess Plateau, has long been, so far, is still indispensable. The same time, small grains nutrition rich medical food source, is a traditional Chinese health food feedstock crops and export of agricultural products, has strong competitiveness in the domestic and overseas markets, presents tremendous economic benefits. In addition, small grains, or an important part of the vegetation, the area of ??soil erosion control is of great historical and realistic significance. Therefore, to seize the opportunity of the strategic restructuring of China's agricultural history, follow the trend of the market economy, local conditions, vigorously develop the production of small grains, and constantly improve its level of production, specialty agriculture industrialization will be the Loess Plateau arid areas of agricultural production and the development of long-term strategic choice. The paper is divided into eight chapters. The first chapter is the introduction, comprehensive expositions arid areas of dry farming on the Loess Plateau, an important strategic position and Arid Regions expand understanding of the basis of the drought intensifies, pointed out that the small grains crops in arid irreplaceable; demonstrated the production of small grains development prospects and trends, clear the current small grains research should focus on the research direction, and the basic idea of ??this study. The different provinces, autonomous regions and crops in the second chapter on the Loess Plateau arid region of small grains production trend analysis, practical partition and the Loess Plateau of small grains production, discusses the production and distribution of the characteristics of the districts of small grains. To analyze the ecological environment of the Loess Plateau Chapter crops ecological adaptability measurement and evaluation should be pointed out that in the area of ??the adaptability of drought stress, and major small grains crops drought adaptability evaluation. The fourth chapter Tin District trial, focusing on heat production potential of the loess hilly and gully region of small grains crops and precipitation production potential reveals the degree of development of the productive potential of small grains. Chapter 5 reveals the precipitation of minor crops production potential for the development and promotion of the need for exploration of precipitation production potential for the development and promotion of the major limiting factor quantitative research and cultivation techniques of water-saving facilities to enhance production potential of precipitation, established the development and promotion of the corresponding technical way. Chapter 6 analyzes the market competitiveness of small grains, reveals the industrial development of the Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University of Science and Technology doctoral thesis: Loess Plateau production of small grains research prospects for sustainable development, development status quo ineffective contradiction for small grains industry development prospects and its major constraints, promote the development of small grains industry strategic countermeasures. Defined in Chapter VII of the concept of sustainable development and the production of small grains connotation, constructed to achieve the sustainable development of small grains production technology system, and propose the necessary safeguards and countermeasures. The eighth chapter summarizing the main conclusions of the study, and discuss relevant issues. The main conclusions made by the Institute are the following: 1. Clear improve the productivity of small grains is the basis for sustainable development of the core of the \scientific research pointed out the direction for this stage of small grains. 2. Discrimination on the relationship between crop production and sustainable development of agriculture. Sustainable development of crop production is an important part of the sustainable development of agriculture, but also their focus and difficulty, only to achieve the sustainable development of crop production, sustainable development of agriculture there is hope, the two complement each other, Differentiation unified relationship. Discusses the advantages of small grains production of the agricultural areas of Loess Plateau, that small grains in the highland rainfed farming areas of agricultural production in an important strategic position, and particularly pointed out in the Loess Plateau agricultural areas, small grains should be considered \provide a theoretical basis for the development of small grains production. 4 for the first time on the hilly and gully region of Loess the precipitation production potential of the small grains crops system analysis, the results show that only 17.19%, the degree of development of the productive potential of precipitation at this stage the area major small grains crops through advances in science and technology tremendous prospects for the development of the production potential of its precipitation; comprehensive exploration of small grains precipitation production potential for the development and promotion of the main limiting factor, and the first to establish the development and promotion of technical approaches. Which according to Ning Nanhai original model, proposed the spraying the chemical the Drought suppression steamed agent (FA) cultivation conditions, small grains crop production potential of precipitation estimates formulas, is also the first time. System analysis market competitiveness of small grains in the Loess Plateau arid areas and reveals broad prospects for development of the industry: clear the main reason for the lag and constraints of small grains industry development, promote the development of small grains industry strategic countermeasures has an important role in guiding the arid region of small grains industry development. First defined the concept of sustainable development and the production of small grains connotation, pointed out that at the present stage production of small grains sustainable development must take the road of sustainable development of the intensive. Creatively achieve the sustainable development of small grains production continued to improve rainfall use efficiency, to emphasize conservation tillage and planting, highlighting the output of green products to promote the added processing efficiency, while minimizing the environmental negative effects as the main feature. technology system, and put forward the necessary safeguards and countermeasures.
