As the world is marching into "a century of cities" from "the century of urbanization", the city has grown into the most significant living space for human beings. At the same time, big cites in the world are confronted with such "survival crisis" as population explosion, resource shortage, environmental pollution and so on in varying degrees at present, and the voice that call for building the "Eco-city" is rised higher. In process of searching the ideal habitancy pattern—"Eco-city", the underground space has received more and more recognition because of its proper superiority. Practice indicates that making use of underground space not only is able to alleviate various contradictions effectively caused by land resources shortage, but also helps for cites’ eco-construction and sustainable development.However, in the process of developing & using underground space to construct the "Eco—city", we have to face the following problems: (1) How to realize concordant development of ground space and underground space by means of reasonable planning, thereby avoiding blindly develop underground space? (2) How to fully utilize the characteristics of underground space to improve the entironment on the ground? (3) Under the situation that people paid more and more attention to the physiology environment and the mentality environment of underground space, how to build the ecotypic underground space, improve the environment and arise the attraction of underground space?Based on the above problems, firstly, in the field of planning, the function development hiberarchy, plane & vertical layout of underground space in process of building the "Eco—city" have been studied; Secondly, in the field of design, mainly focus on searching integrative design method of the ecotypic underground infrastructural facilities and inside of the urban underground complex; Finally, a practice has been carried out for the EXPO Shanghai 2010 Park’s underground planning & design.At present the "Eco—city" construction is still in the searching stage in world field. At the same time, the theory and practice of planning & design about underground space development and utilization need further study and search in China. This thesis hopes to do some reality help to the development and utilization of underground space during the "Eco—city" construction in our country.
