Though currently the significance of English learning strategies have attracted increasing attention, oral English learning strategies of senior high school students have not been paid much attention to. As a matter of fact, it is of great importance for senior high school students to employ English learning strategies for improving their speaking abilitiesThe purpose of this thesis is to investigate the current use of the oral English learning strategies among senior high school students in Suzhou No.1 Senior High School. This paper investigates whether the oral English learning strategies have been used by the senior high school students and how often they use them.Data are collected using journals and questionnaires. The data from the journals are divided into two categories. The first are students’ideas about oral English learning and the second are the English learning strategies they employ while learning it. The data from the questionnaires are classified into three groups. They are students’history of English learning, their ideas about oral English learning and their learning strategies of oral English. The English learning strategies from journals and questionnaires are subdivided into six groups on the basis of Oxford’s classification of language learning strategies. Information from journals and questionnaires is analyzed.It was discovered that two barriers for senior high school students to speak English well were a lack of vocabulary and a fear of speaking English. It was also determined that senior high school students were better at employing memory strategies and compensation strategies. The least often employed strategies were affective strategies.After analyzing the data form the questionnaire, the ten most frequently and infrequently adopted English learning strategies were determined. Both instructors and students need to be familiar with English learning strategies. It is necessary for the students to pay more attention to their affective condition and manage their anxieties better. It is suggested that instructors need to give more opportunities for students to practice English and students need to actively look for opportunities to speak English in and outside class.
