Emotion, including emotion recognition, emotion understanding, emotional expression and emotion regulation. The concept of emotion regulation and the core of the debate reflect the individual character of the development of emotion regulation, although the understanding of different researchers in emotion regulation has differences, but all reflect emotion regulation as a dynamic process and throughout the development of emotion regulation individual’s life.This article has six parts: the first part introduces the concept of emotion regulation and different researchers define the differences in emotion regulation; second part is the focus of the article, summarizes the development of emotion regulation of individual continuity and phase characteristics. This study suggests that the development of emotion regulation through the individual life, emotion regulation at different age has its own characteristics, reflecting the stage of the development of emotion regulation; but there is continuity in emotion regulation development, without disease interference emotion regulation ability will get optimization in old age, reflecting the continuity of change in emotion regulation; the role of continuity in the stage also show the level of development and imbalance in the speed , which is the baby of the acquisition of emotion regulation during early childhood is a period of rapid development of emotion regulation, adolescence is a period of both opportunities and challenges, old age is the best period, the stage is the research focus. The third part is the internal and external factors in the development of emotion regulation , physiological mechanisms, environmental factors (family, school, social) ,the development of emotion regulation is not a negative components and reaction in these factors ,it produces positive and negative effects in overall development of emotion regulation . The fourth part is differences in research methods of emotion regulation, in order to study the development of emotion regulation, researchers need to increase the individual-centered research methods. Part five explores at different stages of emotion regulation how individuals intervent emotion regulation, so that the emotion regulation ability access to development. The sixth part is the inspiration and prospects for future research to explore the development of emotion regulation research. .
