Radial-axial ring rolling (RARR) technique mainly used in the production of a large seamless ring, which is an advanced plastic forming technique to reduce the thickness and height, enlarge the diameter and form the profile of the ring by ring rolling machine. It has been used to manufacture large seamless rings applied in many industry fields, such as heavy machine, energy equipment, aeronautics and astronautics etc, due to its technical superiorities such as high efficiency, good quality, energy and material saving. Radial-axial large inner-step section ring rolling technology is a special kind of RARR forming technology, which is a complicated forming process with multi-factors coupling interactive effects. At present, the relative researches of radial-axial large inner-step ring rolling are few, which cause the scientific guidance of actual manufacture process design limited, and seriously restrict the further development and application of the technique.In this paper, Firstly, According to the shape characteristics of inner-step section ring, the roll forming schemes were designed, and a3D coupled thermo-mechanical FE model was established based on the traditional method; Then, according to the theoretical analysis and climbing problems of the actual manufacture, the FE model was optimized with FE simulation and experiment. The results would provide the reliable technical method for further studying the radial-axial large inner-step ring rolling technology.According to the deformation characteristics of inner-step ring, the ring’s section deformation regulation was analyzed. On the basis of simulation, the distribution and evolution regulation of the ring’s stress, strain and temperature as well as the force and power in the rolling process was revealed, and the different forming schemes were respectively optimized. The results laid a foundation for further understanding and researching on the deformation mechanism of radial-axial large inner-step section ring rolling technique.Combining with actual technological process, the design and planning of radial-axial inner-step ring rolling was investigated, including the calculate method of baiting and blank. On the basis of the technical conditions for radial-axial large ring rolling technique, the reasonable scope for feed rate of the idle roller and up-axial roller, the rotary velocity of the driven roller and axial roller were obtained, and the specification of feed control was designed as well as the guidance of technical procedure was proposed. The results would support the actual technical parameters design with theoretical guidance.
