Design and Implementation of Identification System for Cutting Tools of Nc Machine Tool Based on Rfid

In automatic production, the cutting tools of NC machine tool are high consumables, which are changed more and more frequently with the increase of workpiece. The tools are managed by ATC (Automatic tool changer) in machining center. In this paper, the RFID (Radio frequency identification) technology is used in the identification and management of the tools in order to manage and locate it effectively and fastly.The identification system of the tools based on RFID is built. The geometry and technical data of the tool are stored in RFID tag which is installed in the tool. The tag information always co-exists with the tool which can be managed effectively. The main research contents are as follows:1. The identification and exchange method of the tools in machining center and the principle of RFID are studied. The plan of tool management based on RFID technology is determined and data transmission of RFID is studied.2. The management system of the tools based on RFID is realized. It includes the design of external circuit of RFID module and reader antenna, the development of recognition module software and the database of tool information. The information flow throughout the system is achieved.3. The management system of the tools is used in ATC simulation set. Platform of rotary cutter device and interface circuit with RFID module are designed. The software of random change system is developed and achieved.In this paper, the automatic management and fast Locating of the tools in ATC simulation set are achieved by using the RFID technology. This system is effective, reliable and lowcost.
