Vectored V/STOL aircraft is one kind of vectored aircrafts, but it has other kindsincomparable advantage in short range take-off and super maneuverability, having broadprospects for development. Many foreign military powers have in-depth research on theV/STOL aircraft, designing and manufacturing variable demonstrators for tests.The3-bearing swivel duct nozzle is the most popular one used in vectored V/STOLaircraft, including three ducts. The adjacent ducts can rotate each other, making the nozzlevector to a certain degree.Imitating the power system of some vectored V/STOL, a3-bearing swivel duct isdesigned. The shape from contour of the ducts and their geometrical relationship is analyzed.A driving system using steel cable driver is designed and a qualitative analysis is made on thesystem’s accuracy, to indicate that the nozzle can vector to a degree quickly and preciselyusing this system. The nozzle including four parts is modeled by the CATIA software.Based on the FEM theory, thermal deformation analysis is conducted on the importantparts of the nozzle. It is concluded that the radial deformation of the connection is in theexpected range, indicating that the ducts can rotate in high temperature.Adopting the principle of coordinate system transformation, the kinematic model isestablished and its simulation is made. Using the simulation curves, an analysis is made onthe rotating characteristics.The force balance tests of a scaled nozzle are done on a six-component cassette balance.By analyzing the changing curves about vectoring thrust and vector angle, the thrustcharacteristics of the3-bearing swivel nozzle is concluded.
