Micro-simulation Study on Traffic Flow under Emergency

Since reform and opening-up, transportation facilities have been advanced by ournation’s rapid economic and social development, logistics, and high-frequencyinteraction of information flow. Consequently, traffic jams, tra ffic emergency andother effects have followed, which become the focus of our transportation facilities’planning and design. Adopting modern computer technology to facilitate solvingtraffic problems has been a hot issue in the academic research.This paper first describes the functions of micro traffic flow simulation to solvepractical problems, and further studies the complexity of traffic flow simulation underemergency combining with CAS (complex adaptive systems theory). Adopting ABM(Agent-Based Modeling) technology, this study builds a standardized model foragents in emergency traffic flow. At the same time, this study builds modelsrespectively for traffic agents and traffic agents’ behaviors in emergency traffic flow.Moreover, this study also builds models for the traffic lights in the traffic network.Therefore, all traffic vehicles in the emergency traffic flow can communicate witheach other and simulate their behaviors in the traffic flow. Based on the demands ofmicro simulation of traffic flow, this study establishes an algorithm model of trafficflow generation, and an algorithm model of micro agents’, like vehicles and so on,movements and generations in emergence traffic flow. This study integrates thesemodels on the basis of Urbansim open source system and designs a database. Basedon the open source framework of Urbansim, this study integrates and structuresoptionally traffic agents modules in this study and self-open function modules inUrbansim, and finally builds a simulation platform of emergency traffic flow.In the light of design principles orientating towards traffic flow micro agents andtriggered by an emergent event, this study simulates the behaviors of vehicles agentsunder an emergency event and spread into regions. This study sets intersects amongthe road network in the spread regions, simulates the vehicles agents’ traffic flowthrough the intersects under several situations and then does a statistic analysis toprovide data for designing traffic evacuation plan.
