At present, the traffic jam has become one of the biggest problems that restrict thedevelopment of the urban economics. In order to reduce the traffic pressure and improve thetraffic efficiency, the intelligent traffic monitoring system is put into practice to coordinateand control the traffic in many countries. In the traffic monitoring system, the vehicledetection technology, which can obtain the traffic information, directly affects the operationand the management of the whole urban traffic monitoring system. As the informationcollection part of the traffic monitoring system, the vehicle detector is applied to collect theprecise real-time data for the control and the management, to make the condition of thecrossroads optimized. Thus, based on the study of the existing vehicle detection technology, anew vehicle detection system is designed.The AMR magnetic sensors can collect the magnetic signals to provide the reliablesignals for the traffic signal processor through the wireless model nRF905. After the analysisof the system functions, the overall scheme of the vehicle monitoring system is designed. Thewhole system is composed of three modules: sensor nodes, receivers and data converters.When the sensor nodes get the traffic information, the data will be transferred into receivers,in which the data is analyzed and processed. Then through the RS-485SCI unit, the dataconverters can obtain it and convert it to the other format that can be processed in the trafficsignal processor. With the overall scheme, the hardware and the software of the three modulescan be realized in detail, and the traffic detection algorithm, communication protocols amongthe modules and the communication course is introduced particularly.To verify the functions of the vehicle system, the tests are made. The results show thatthe wireless and geomagnetic vehicle detector can detect the vehicle information timely andeffectively, and can provide accurate and reliable data for the traffic monitoring system. Thus,with the low cost, the small volume and the low detection mistakes, the system is of highpopularization value and broad application prospect.
