Research on HD64F-based Controller of Electric Power Steering System

Steering which is the driving central and user experience (UE) terminal is a core ofstudy on automotive. Now, developing of automotive electronics and enhancing ofpeople’s consciousness of energy conservation and environmental protection, hydraulicpower steering does not meet the requirements of people and modern car design concept,because traditional hydraulic power steering has complicated structures, high cost,difficult of installation and maintenance, leak of hydraulic oil and clumsy steeringcharacteristics. In order to reduce fuel, electric power steering which is simple,inexpensive, easy to install and maintain, adjustable and recycle will substitute forHydraulic power steering.Firstly, the control strategies of three operation modes were established, based onanalysis of friction torque and alignment torque in UniTire Modeling. And somemethods of compensation in different operation modes were described.Secondly, the prototype of controller based on HD64F is an achievement of thisarticle. In order to reduce the cost, each modular of the controller was designed withdiscrete component. The modular design was used on the controller which is composedof four modules, involving power supply module, fault detection and operation module,signal detection module. Circuits of each modular were designed. In addition, powersupply module can be divided universal power submodular, power supply to motorsubmodular and+5V power supply module. And threshold value of each circuits’electrical parameters were defined.Finally, power performance test, motor step response test, no-load EPS controllerabsorbing the current test, and damping characteristics experiment were studied at thebench.
