The cost of building structure not only reflectes the technical merit of designer, and as themost important indicator which investors pay attention to, it directly affects the economicbenefits of the project. Optimization design means by optimizing the structure to reduce thecost and make the economic indicators optimizated on the premise of ensuring structuresafety and be satisfied with a variety of standards or specific requirements.By analyzing relationships between structural design and cost of construction, this paperilluminates that the structure design phase is the most important phase which impacts the costof project. Also in order to control the cost in the structure design phase, a series of proposalswere put forward which are summaried from recently practical projects. By qualitative andquantitative analysis, Economic and reasonable material using index and optimizationmeasures of reinforced concrete building were put forward.Structural layout and section select should be advantageous to saving materialconsumption under meeting the structure force and deformation; natural foundation orcomposite foundation should be preferred;load, calculation model and calculation parametersshould be accurate. To saving steel consumption, steel specifications should be reasonableselect under meeting structural reinforcement. Research results which this paper presents canbe used in the design work, and help designers to establish the importance of economicindexes.
