Large power transformers are important equipment of power transmission systems. The accurate assessment of their operating status and the timely and correct diagnosis of faults and defects concerns the operation safety of the entire grid. Transformer condition assessment is to record, classify and assess the operation status and other information of transformers, which provides decision basis for equipment maintenance. Transformer fault diagnosis is a part of transformer condition assessment. On the basis of mass collection of oil chromatographic data of fault transformers, the transformer fault diagnosis method based on the oil chromatographic analysis is proposed, and the development law of the transformer oil chromatography is summarized for fault diagnosis and fault prediction in this paper. A variety of factors affected the chromatographic data as well as corrective measures are analyzed.In recent years, with the popularity of unattended substation and the advance of the equipment status maintenance work, the online monitoring and live detection technology of the electrical equipment are used more widely. The on-line monitoring and charged detection technology of transformers got different degree of application nationwide. There is also more than ten years of operation experience in jiangsu province. Investigation and research on the application of on-line monitoring and charged detection technology of transformers will be carried on. Related suggestions which are good for the advancement of application level of transformer on-line monitoring and charged detection technology will be puts forward in this subject.
