Lightning activities were relatively strong in Guangzhou Baiyun Airport region. Becauseof geographical conditions, weather conditions and quite dense electron and so on, therewere more opportunities to this region which was struck by lightning. Lightning protectionoccupied a very important position for the protection of the safe operation of Baiyun Airport,which was a base of safe development and on behalf of international image. How to reducelightning accidents becomes an important topic to stable operation of Baiyun Airport.With rapid developmental establishment, the size of Baiyun Airport has expanded eachyear. Lightning accidents of this region also had shown an increasing trend year by year.Research and analysis of the possible factors of lightning protection of Baiyun Airport hasbecome the necessary groundwork to maintain the safe and stable operation of this region.Lightning location system is the most advanced monitoring methods of regional lightningactivity. In this paper, based on lightning location data of the Guangzhou and Baiyun Airportregion from1999to2008, the spatial and temporal distribution of lightning activity wouldbe analyzed and compared in Baiyun Airport region. And then, analyzing and calculatingdetailed the model of the lightning risk assessment, it would be seized of the buildings’lightning rish ranking in Baiyun Airport region. Combining with the character of this region,the relationship has been compartmentalized about the various regions. And based on thedifferent characters of the various regions, the lightning protection suggestions was advised.Besides that, this research has important scientific and guidable significance for improvingthe forecasting and early warning capacity of thunder and lightning for Baiyun Airport. Theall and the one will be solidified for the stable operation of Baiyun Airport.
