Objective:To explore the effects of Dendrobium officinale kimura et Migo on atherosclerosis and the plausible mechanism of anti-atherosclerotic effect though studying the effects of Dendrobium officinale kimura et Migo on the serum lipid spectrum, and inflammatory factors of ApoE-/-mice.Methods:All the ApoE-/-mice were fed a chow diet for1week to be adapt to the new environment, and then the fifty-six male C57BL/6J ApoE-/-mice were randomly divided into two groups, one was blank control group (fed a basic feed), the other was modeling group who were fed a high-cholesterol diet for4weeks to induce the atherosclerosis mode. And then, they were given simvastatin, Dendrobium officinale kimura et Migo by gavage. They were sacrificed after treated with the drugs for8weeks continuously, and then plasma lipid was determined by enzymatic method, the expression of TNF-αand IL-6was measured by ELISA kit, aortic valves were stained with Soudan IV, aortic arches were stained with oil red O and Hematoxylin-eosin, the liver was stained with Hematoxylin-eosin and the expression of TNF-a and IL-6in aortic arches was detected with immunohistochemistry.Results:1. The results of the oil red O staining on aortic valve showing that the atherosclerosis model was established successfully;2. The mice’s weight of the Dendrobium officinale kimura et Migo groups can remain a relatively stable state;3. Dendrobium officinale kimura et Migo can lower plasma lipid (including TG, TCHOL, LDL-C)(P<0.05) significantly;4. Dendrobium officinale kimura et Migo reduce the expression of TNF-α and IL-6(P<0.05);5. Dendrobium officinale kimura et Migo can inhibit or slow down the fonnation of atheromatous plaque in the aortic valves and aortic arch;6. Dendrobium officinale kimura et Migo can reduce the fat accumulation in the liver;7. Dendrobium officinale kimura et Migo can decrease the expression of TNF-a and IL-6in aortic arch.Conclusion:Dendrobium officinale kimura et Migo can reduce serum lipids and aortic plaque deposition, inhibit the expression of serum TNF-αand IL-6effectively in the ApoE-/-mice and may promote the reverse transport of cholesterol, reducing atherosclerosis injury.
