Purpose.To investigate the change of ganglion cell complex (GCC) and peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) under different refractive conditions, as measured by optical coherence tomograhpy.Methods.Consecutive participants were enrolled over a6-month-period. OCT images were obtained by a spectral domain system-RTVue OCT using scan pattern:GCC, NHM4and EMM5. axial length measurement using IOLmaster, refraction measured using an autorefraction (NIDEK ARK-700A, Japan) and refined by an experienced optometrist, then spherical equivalent was calculated using the spherical dioptre(D) plus one-half the cylindrical dioptric power. The relationship of GCC, macular retinal thickness and RNFL thickness against spherical equivalents (SE) and axial length (AL) was studied.Results.1、1、107eyes (from107subjects) were included, among with17low myopia (≦-3.0D),31moderate myopia (-3.00D to-6.00D),43high myopia(-6.00D to-10.00D) and16super high myopia (≧-10.00D). The four groups have similar age (P=0.267) and gender (P=0.061) distribution, but the spherical equivalent (P<0.001) and axial length (P<0.001) are different.2、The average, superior and inferior macular GCC thickness was significantly associated with both SE (r=0.42, P<0.001; r=0.349, P<0.001; r=0.451P<0.001) and AL (r=-0.28, P=0.04; r=-0.203, p=0.036; r=-0.33, p=0.001). GCC and RNFL thickness were also correlated.3、Most of the macular as well as RNFL thickness have a negative correlation with AL and positive correlation with SE, and the inner and outer layer macular thickness seems to decrease in much the same manner, but at fovea the inner retinal thickness showed a positive correlation with AL(r=0.24, p=0.012).Conclusions.1、The GCC and peripapillary RNFL thickness are correlated with refraction and AL; GCC was well-correlated to RNFL thickness.2、The macular retinal thickness are correlated with refraction and AL; The inner/outer macular thickness also changes with myopia, but different area in different ways.
