The shaft coupling is an important component mechanical transmission system, its protective level reflects a national industrial safety degree, safety science and technology level. The shaft coupling works when the rotational speed is high, strengthens shaft coupling’s safety protection is possible to prevent and reduce intertwinement and splash and other accidents, realize the working environment safety of transmission system. At present, our country still has not standards which are unified and aim at couplings protection, the protective equipment design, the manufacture, the installment and so on is not very standard. In this paper, linear regression analysis and the size chain theory are used to research and design the standard rigid shaft coupling guard.In this paper, linear regression analysis and the size chain theory are used to research and design the standard rigid shaft coupling guard, the key technical parameters which the rigid coupling influence protection device are refined. Through actual investigation and study which carries on to the Heilongjiang Province partial foreign enterprises transmission equipment and the private business import transmission equipment’s shaft coupling and the protective equipment, 106 groups of axial and the radial direction size data of shaft couplings and the protective equipments are gained, linear regression analysis theory is applied to analyse and optimize these data, relationship equations of the shaft coupling and the protective equipment in the external dimension parameter are calculated, and relations equations are used to preliminarily design standard rigid coupling protection device’s radial direction arc diameter size and the axial length size.By the ? type protective equipment as the object of study, the standard rigid shaft couplings are divided into 10 groups according to the length size, the best protection device with axial length and radial size is designed for each group coupling, and protective device parameter table is designed, the protective equipment size chain design is realized. Finally, man-machine engineering theory is used to analyse protective equipment’s safe distance, the sign, the color and personnel’s behavior factor and so on.Quantitative investigation to the protective equipment is very little in the country mechanical shielding standards; this topic’s research has the important meaning to realize the shaft coupling protective equipment quantitative investigation. Using the size chain design method, has made up for the traditional design method of trival and inefficient the shortcoming, has provided one feasible method for protective equipment’s fast design.
