The Translation Report on the Technical Specifications of the Power Plant Project

With the rapid economic growth in China and the deepening of the exchanges between China and the world in different areas, the exchanges of the international trade and the creams of science and technology also have been boosted. More and more Chinese products, especially the technological products, cut a figure in the international market. Therefore, the translation of the technical specifications and technical instructions has also become a necessary tool for the promotion of export sales.With clear logical structure, exact expression and terms, the technical specifications not only focus on the expression, but also pay more attention to the understanding of the original, which requires the translators not only good at translating, but also get the general idea of the relevant expertise. Therefore, the translation of the technical specifications is worthy of study in many aspects.First, this thesis gives a brief description of the translation work of the Technical Specifications of the Power Plant Project. It gives the background of the Technical Specifications of the Power Plant Project, the preparation before translation, the translation process as well as the post-translation feedback. Secondly, the thesis analyzes the translation work of the Technical Specifications of the Power Plant Project. It discusses the linguistic features of the technical specification, namely the lexical features, the syntactic features and the discourse features. And based on these linguistic features under Nida’s functional equivalence Theory, the thesis further discusses the translation standard, translation principles, and translation strategy of the technical specification works. What’s more, taking examples from the translation text of the Technical Specification of the Power Plant Project into account, the thesis also discusses the problems which are found in the translation process as well as how to solve these problems. Finally, the thesis discusses the limitation, major findings and suggestions for future study on the technical specification translation.
