Research on the Translation of Intangible Cultural Heritage from the Perspective of Cultural Cognition

China is one of the countries which have richest intangible cultural heritages in the world.In recent years，with the development of external exchange and depening reform and opening-upof our country，more and more Chinese intangible cultural heritages will be displayed to theworld. Therefore the inheritance，protection and transmitting of intangible cultural heritage havebecome more and more important. In the inheritance，protection and transmitting of intangiblecultural heritage, many links are involved, and traslation is one of them. Translation is anintercultural communication, in the translation of intangible cultural heritage，how to fullyexpress the idea，concept and content of intangible cultural heritage without losing the culturalimage and cultural connotation is a new subject for translation study. There are many models andapproaches in the translation research on intangible cultural heritage. This paper tries to explorethe Chinese-English translation of the intangible cultural heritage from the perspective ofcultural congnition. Cultural cognition view appeared in1920s. Since mid-1960s，with thedevelopment of social linguistics，culturology and cognition science，it is getting more and moreclear that culture cannot exist without cognition. By the same token, the translation of intangiblecultural heritage cannot be done without the involvement of cultural cognition. The translation ofintangible cultural heritage from the perspective of cultural cognition can solve the problem thatdifferent cultures in different areas cannot be carried over to each other and contribute to theelimination of the cultural barriers between peoples of different cultural backgrounds and to theunderstanding of each other on the basis of common cultural cognition.Guided by foreign and domestic culturology and cognitive linguistics theories, the thesisinspects and discusses the concrete examples of the ancient proverbs and songs in GuangxiZhuang Autonomous Region and explores the English translation strategies and approaches withthe aim to set examlpes for the study of English translation of ICH.
