With the information age of the social life and economicglobalization, English is more and more important. English, as one of themost important information carrier, has become the most widely usedlanguage in the various fields of human life. For many developingcountry’s the development of basic education strategy, they treat Englishas an important part of the civic quality education, and put it in aprominent position, China is no exception. At the primary stage, Englishis also a major school subject, such as Chinese、Mathematics. Englishteaching materials are the direct carriers of English teaching. The successor failure of English teaching is directly related to the English textbooks,so we should choose the English teaching materials essentially. The newcurriculum education reform implements:“one outline, more materials”,since2001, more than20sets of primary school English textbooks whichreviewed by the National School Textbook Examination Committee hasbeen adapted and put into use. In2011, the Ministry of Education issued anew compulsory English curriculum standards, it starts the revision ofcompulsory education part of the subject materials. Facing so manyEnglish textbooks, we should focus on the2011English curriculumstandards, and accurately study and select the English materials, in orderto promote the quality of English teaching. Since the rehabilitation curriculum, the primary schools in Hohhot had been used PEP primaryEnglish materials for many years. We have get a certain amount ofteaching effectiveness, but there are also a number of problems, we needa further study. On the basis of the text analysis of PEP primary teachingmaterials, we use the ways of observation、questionnaires and interviews.This thesis is divided into five parts. The first part is the introduction.It introduces the research background, purpose, significance. The secondpart is the literature review. It discusses historical and current situation ofmaterials research at home and abroad. It also defines the concept andcurriculum standards、textbooks、English textbooks、PEP、teachingmaterials evaluation and the selection of materials. The third part is thetext analysis of PEP. It contains the guiding ideology、layout system、andcompilation characteristics of PEP primary English teaching materials.The fourth part is the research of the PEP primary English teachingmaterials usage. This study combines with the2011version of theEnglish curriculum standards, designs student questionnaires, teachersquestionnaires, and teacher interview outline. Through these ways, we tryto understand the use of PEP primary English teaching materials inHohhot, and analysis the survey results. The fifth part is the studyconclusions and recommendations. From the before text analysis and thefindings of the analysis, we could draw the conclusions of this thesis. Forthis, we could provide some suggestions for the main textbook writers and especially first-line teachers, it will be better for them improve thequality of the teaching materials and make full use of it.
