Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, founded in1957, is one of China’s oldest Symphony Orchestras. After decades of the artisitc growth, Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra becomes one of the most prestigious orchestras in China. After founding, merging, reconstruction, renamed, reformed, the orchestra has pass a number of important stages of development. The development of the orchestra is closely related to the development of society, polity, economic, culture and other fields, is the case for reforming and developing of the Chinese Culture System, is the miniature of the development of Chinese society.This is the study for the fifty-five years history of Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra. Through collecting and studying at the large number of the existing documents, such as program notes, performance record, conference documents, newspaper review and summary, as well as interviewing the key persons, such as the musicians had worked in the orchestra from1957, the guest artists had worked with the orchestra and the main orchestra leaders in different period, I would like to summarize the key events in the orchestra history and draw out a map of the development of the orchestra. From the research on the orchestra activities, the musicians’ ife, the music performed by the orchestra, the guest artists worked with the orchestra, to find out the path of the development of the orchestra and to analysis the mutual connection and interaction between the orchestra and the social political, economic, cultural, educational and other aspects, to explore the law of reform and development of the domestic art performing organization, and to provide the experience and inspiration for the future development.
