After experiencing numerous wars from the17th century to the19th century, East Asia resumed prosperous cultural communications centred around Chinese characters. Korean diplomatic delegations as well as their Chinese character writing were an integral part of this process.In ancient East Asia, Chinese characters and culture created and promoted culture in this era significantly. From a historical point of view, the special political and geographic relationship of the Korean Peninsula to China has ensuredit was bound to transmit Chinese culture and Chinese characters to the east through cultural communication. After "the Japanese invasion of Korea" was over, Korea and Japan, which was under a new regime, urgently needed to reestablish their diplomatic relationship. After that, Korean diplomatic delegations were sent to Japan12times between1607and1811.During this two hundreds years of communications, Chinese character writing was closel y connected to Korea and Japan due to its unique figures, symbols, political statues and transmission history. Meanwhile, the Korean diplomatic delegations’understanding of world cultural systems from the17th to19th centuries consisted of the phonetic, communication development and recordings of Japanese social phenomena. This encouraged the Korean Peninsular to become international and diversify its culture. This fully illustrated the extent of which diplomatic relationships established through Chinese character writings, allowed the Korean peninsula to engage with different countries with different religions, languages and cultures. It also showed mutual trust between countries and co-existence of diversified cultures.Chinese character writing of the Korean diplomatic delegations leaded by "HaehaengChongjae" was not only vital at that time but also in the21stcentury. On one level, it has promoted the transmission of Chinese characters, on another, it has enhanced cultural communications among China, Japan and Korea, providing great treasures of cultural heritage for all of East Asia and the rest of the world. Korean diplomatic delegations and their Chinese character writings made great contributions to a splendid cultureCultural communications are confronted with internationalization and globalization, the Korean diplomatic delegations and their writings may provide us some insight about how can we achieve development and understanding of cultural diversity worldwide. Chinese characters and Chinese culture plays an increasingly important role with the rise of China as well as the rest of East Asia.
