Inhibition of Airway Inflammation, Hyperresponsiveness and Remodeling by Soy Isoflavone in Murine Model of Allergic Asthma

Epidemiological studies have shown that taking soy isoflavones can reduce cough and respiratory inflammatory diseases , but the role of soy isoflavones on allergic asthma has rarely been reported . We speculate that soy isoflavones the sensitized mice airway hyperresponsiveness , airway inflammation and airway remodeling have a role . In this study, using ovalbumin sensitized mice , the formation of allergic airway inflammation model . Mice were lavage , counting the number of inflammatory cells in the lavage fluid , and determination of cytokine levels . By pathological examination , observation of the infiltration of inflammatory cells in the lung tissue , mucus secretion of cell proliferation and airway remodeling reaction . Determination of mRNA expression of inflammatory cytokines in the lung tissue . Measured by monitoring the airway resistance airway hyperresponsiveness . The results showed : the soy isoflavones ig , could significantly inhibit sensitized mice induced airway hyperresponsiveness to methacholine . Inhibition of the increase in lavage inflammatory cells and eosinophils . RT-PCR results showed that soy isoflavones can inhibit sensitized mice lung tissue of Eotaxin , IL -5 , IL -4 , as well as the increase in MMP-9 mRNA expression increased IFN-γ and TIMP-1 mRNA expression was dose-dependent manner . Soy isoflavones can improve the sensitized mice lavage fluid the middle of IFN-γ/IL-4 ( of Th1/Th2 ) . In addition, histological examination found that soy isoflavones significantly inhibited the infiltration of eosinophils in the lung tissue , mucus secretion, cell proliferation and collagen deposition . Our study confirms that as nutritional additives soy isoflavones , has a new role in the treatment of allergic airway inflammation disease .
