Study on the theory of Simmel's modernity crisis

We can say modernity problem is the most focused problem in recent educationalcircles. However, Simmel who lived at the end of19th century and at the beginning of20th century did a special exploration on modernity problem.When confronting themodernization process at the end of19th century and at the beginning of20th centuryin the capitalist society, not only did simmel see the achievement that human had made,but also felt the potential crisis that existed in the whole capitalist society. According tohis own experience living in capitalist society, Simmel pointed out that the capitalistsociety had fallen into deep crisis at the back of superficial prosperous. As far assimmel concerned, the modern crisis and its tragedy that existed in the capitalistsociety are both culture crisis and culture tragedy in depth.They originated from theconflict and suppression between objective and subjective culture. When confrontingmodern crisis that generated by capitalist society, Simmel came up with the theory ofreligion and aesthetics remedy. In Simmel’s opinion, if we mean to overcome moderncrisis, we should regress our own religious culture traditions on the one side. However,such regression is not the one in simple significance. Actually,it is reconstruction. Onthe other side,it lies in aesthetic remedy.The possibility of such remedy originated fromthe esthetics’s own characters.
